Abstract

Background: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are components of the
innate immune system and provide the first line of defense
against microbial infection through their recognition of
microbial products. Type diabetes mellitus (DMT ) and HCV
infection are severe health problems worldwide.
Aim: To investigate the association between TLR rs
(c. C/T) gene polymorphisms and the susceptibility to HCV
and DMT .
Materials and methods: The study included groups;
DMT patients with chronic HCV infection, DMT patients
without HCV infection and ages and sex matched fifty healthy
controls. DMT was diagnosed according to American Diabetes
Association and diagnosis of HCV was performed by detection
of HCV antibodies in patient serum using enzyme linked
immune assay and confirmed by polymerase chain reaction of
HCV. All subjects were suspected to full history and clinical
examinations. Liver function tests, fasting and postprandial
blood sugar and glycated hemoglobin HbA c were performed
for all patients. Blood samples were collected from all subjects
to investigate the association between TLR rs (c.
C/T) gene polymorphisms and the susceptibility to HCV and
DMT , using polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment
length polymorphism (PCR- RFLP) and PCR products were
analyzed on agarose gel stained with ethidium bromide.
Results: No significant difference (p
