Abstract

This case control study enrolled on 60 cases (30 term infants of preeclampsia and 30 preterm infants of preeclamptic mothers), another healthy age and sex matched 30 neonates (15 full term and 15 preterm ) were enrolled as a control group.
All infants were subjected to detailed history taking, clinical examination of neonates including APGAR score, color, vital signs and, birth weight
Serum irisin level was assayed in cord blood of term and preterm infants of preeclamptic mothers.
The current study revealed the following results:
-There was significant increase in rate of Caesarian section in both term and preterm preeclamptic groups (Ia) (ІIa) (P= 0.001 ) (P= 0.001) when compared with control groups.
- There was significant correlation between parity and preeclmpsia as PG in term preeclampsia 70% (P= 0.004) and in preterm preeclampsia 80% (P= 0.001).
- APGAR I and APGAR II scores significantly decreased in infants of preeclamptic mothers (P=0.001) (P=0.001) when compared with control group.
- Birth weight showed significant decrease in preeclamptic term neonates (Іa) (p= 0.001) when compared with healthy term neonates (Іb) also there was significant decrease in birth weight of preeclamptic preterm neonates (ІIa) when compared with healthy preterm neonates (ІIb) (P= 0.001 ).
- There was significant increase in Hb values in both study groups when compared with control groups (P= 0.004)(P= 0.001 ) and RBCs (P= 0.001)(P= 0.001).
- There was significant decrease in WBCs and platelets values in both study groups (term and preterm) when compared with control groups (term and preterm) (P= 0.001 for all )
- There was significant decrease in serum irisin level in both study groups (term and preterm) when compared with control groups (term and preterm) (P= 0.001 for all )
- There was significant decrease in serum irisin level in preterm preeclamsia ( mean 52.1) when compared with term preeclamsia (mean 60.2) (P 0.001).
- There was also significant decrease in the weight and APGAR score of the infants of preterm preeclampsia (ІIa) when compared to infants of term preeclampsia (Ia) (p 0.001) for all
- In our study we found significantly increase in serum CRP levels in cord blood in both study groups when compared control groups (P= 0.001) (P= 0.002) respectively.
- There were significant increase in total and direct bilirubin in both diseased groups when compared with their control groups (P= 0.001) for all
- There was significant positive correlation between seum irisin level and G.A , infant birth weight and APGAR score.
- There was significant negative correlation between serum irisin level and severity of preeclampsia.
