Abstract Platelet (PLT), a major and essential constituent of blood, plays an important role in physiological and pathological processes such as coagulation, thrombosis, inflammation and maintenance the integrity of vascular endothelial cells. PLT indices are a group of parameters that are used to measure the total amount of PLTs, PLTs morphology and proliferation kinetics. PLT indices are associated with the severity of illness and patients’ prognosis. It was reported that mean platelet volume MPV was rising synchronously with interleukin‑6 and C‑reactiv the increment was correlated to the severity of sepsis. The aim of this study was to study of platelet indices and its changes in sepsis and septic acute kidney injury patients to predict the disease and its severity. Methods: The present study is a cross sectional analytic that had been carried out at a tertiary care hospital, in Menoufia University hospitals. The various platelet indices (MPV, PDW, PCT) were compared among controls, cases with clinical diagnosis of sepsis and cases with clinical diagnosis of septic acute kidney injury (AKI). group III (28) consecutive persons marked as negative in the output of the cell counter were taken as controls. group II (33) cases with diagnosis of sepsis and group I (31) cases with clinical diagnosis of septic acute kidney injury were included and their data tabulated and statistically analyzed |
