Abstract

Curcumin (CUR) is the most commonly used natural product of phytotherapeutics due to its biological activity and safety. CUR is classified according to the biopharmaceutical classification system as class 4 (IV) drug (low aqueous solubility and low permeability). The work in this part was aimed to enhance curcumin water solubility and dissolution rate using different methods. Solid dispersions, inclusion complexes and their physical mixtures were prepared using different hydrophilic carriers at different CUR/polymer weight ratios of 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3. CUR solid dispersions and inclusion complexes with investigated carriers were prepared by freeze drying method.
