Abstract

The term diabetes describes agroup of metabolic disorders characterized and identified by presence of hyperglycaemia in the absence of treatment. The heterogeneous aetiopathology includes defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both, and disturbance of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Based on recent studies in humans and rodents’; derangements of metabolic homeostasis are associated with mechanisms mediating insulin resistance. In recent years, much attention has been focused on potential role of molecules involved in regulation of metabolic homeostasis and complicated interactions between its components in pathogenesis of T2DM. Adropin is a newly identified secreted protein implicated in regulation of insulin sensitivity and vascular endothelial function. The aim of this study is to determine the level of adropin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to elucidate the relation between adropin level and insulin resistance. Materials& methodsThis case controlled study was conducted on 50 patients (28 females and 22 males) their age ranged between 37 to 59 years old who were attending the outpatient clinics and inpatient department of Mansoura Specialized Medical Hospital for a duration of one year between October 2017 to September 2018.
