Abstract
Aim :This study aimed at evaluation of the efficacy of intra-articular injection using injectable platelet rich fibrin (i-PRF)in the management of patients with TMJ disc displacement with reduction. Materials and Methods :Thirty patients suffering from anterior disc displacement with reduction were enrolled in this study. Diagnosis was confirmed by clinical as well as MRI findings. The study included patients who showed presence of clicking, articular pain with or without limitation of the mouth opening. Intra-articular injection was performed with liquid platelet rich fibrin. The evaluated parameters included assessment of articular pain, clicking, maximum inter-incisal opening, lateral and protrusive movements in millimetres (using Veriner calliper), tenderness, and patient satisfaction at the end of follow up period. The measured parameters were assessed pre-operatively, during period of injection, then 1week, 3 and 6months postoperatively. Results: The results showed that there was significant difference in all parameters between preoperative and post-operative periods in the treatment of reducible disc displacement of the TMJ using liquid platelet rich fibrin. Conclusion :Injectable platelet rich fibrin is a safe and effective method in the treatment of TMJ disc displacement with reduction.
