Abstract

The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of irrigating solutions (5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA) and fiber post design (tapered and parallel with tapered end) on the fracture resistance of endodontically- treated maxillary premolar teeth.
In the present study ninety freshly extracted human two rooted maxillary premolar teeth were collected. The crowns of all teeth were resected and total length of each root was standardized to be 13mm from the root apex.
The root canals were prepared using protaper system in crown down technique. Eighty teeth were divided into two main groups (n=40) according to the type of irrigant used during instrumentation.
In the first group (n=40) the root canals were irrigated with 5ml of 5% NaOCl. In the second group (n=40) the root canals were irrigated with 5ml of 5% NaOCl and finally flushed with 5ml of 17% (EDTA). Each root canal was rinsed with saline between NaOCl and EDTA. Root canals were obturated. Then each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n=20) according to the fiber post design:
Summary & Conclusion

Subgroup a: restored with tapered fiber posts and subgroup b: restored with parallel fiber posts with tapered end. Then Core were constructed using core formers in all groups.
Teeth were mounted in auto polymerizing epoxy resin block. All the specimens were loaded under universal testing machine.
Results regarding the effect of irriganting solutions on the fracture resistance: The root canals irrigated with 5% NaOCl and finally flushed with 17% EDTA showed a statically significant higher fracture resistance than root canals irrigated with only 5% NaOCl. Results regarding the effect of fiber post design on the fracture resistance: The root canals restored with parallel with tapered end fiber post showed a statically significant higher fracture resistance than root canals restored with tapered fiber post.

Conclusions and Recommendation
Conclusions
1. Combination of 5% NaOCl irrigating solution and 17% EDTA increased the fracture resistance of fiber post.
2. Parallel with tapered end fiber post was better than tapered fiber post regarding the fracture resistance.
Recommendation
It’s recommended to use parallel sides with tapered end fiber post with 5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA irrigating solutions.
Future analysis should be done to:
1. Evaluate the effect parallel with tapered end fiber post with other irrigating solutions on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth.
2. Evaluate the effect of different type of cement to cement fiber post on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth.
3. Evaluate different sizes of parallel with tapered end and tapered fiber post on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth
