Abstract

Background :Discrepant studies about protective role of IGg and association with activity and stability of the disease were found due to different methods of measuring AB response and difficulty in assessing periodontal disease activity. Aim : Evaluation of biological and clinical effects of Antibody against periodontal pathogenic bacteria. This study analyzed immunoglobulin serum IgG to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis in chronic and aggressive periodontitis patients. Subjects and Methods :Thirty participants were involved in this study. Ten patients with chronic , Ten patients with aggressive as study groups and other ten healthy subjects were enrolled in the study as a control group. Clinical periodontal parameters (Periodontal pocket depth, Clinical attachment loss , Bleeding on probing and plaque index ) were recorded at baseline for three groups (study and control group) and after treatment which is scaling and root planning accompanied by antibiotic for the study groups. GCF and Serum samples were be taken two after six weeks from each patient in the study group. However in control group serum sample was taken only once. The blood samples will be analyzed using ELISA Assay Kit. Result : At base line significant difference was found in all clinical indices between study groups (chronic ,aggressive) and control group. There was significant difference at base line between aggressive and chronic group regarding all clinical parameters except for BOP . The results of the present study showed a significant improvement in all clinical parameters (PPD, PI, BOP and CAL) after six weeks of treatment in the study groups(aggressive and chronic) . The chronic group showed significant reduction in all clinical parameter after treatment except for BOP and PI compared to aggressive periodontitis. Also at base line there was a significant difference between study groups and control groups regarding bacterial count of ( Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis) and IgG against these two pathogen .There was no significant difference between study groups (chronic and aggressive) regarding bacterial count and IgG to A.A and P.G at base line. After six weeks of treatment , there was significant decrease in bacterial count in each study group and there was a decrease in IgG to (A.A and P.G) in non significant difference . By comparing the bacterial count and IgG levels in the study groups to control group after treatment there was no significant difference in bacterial count of both bacteria and in IGg to p.gingivalis except for IgG to A.A. Also after treatment there was no significant difference in bacterial count and IgG to both bacteria between two study groups(chronic and aggressive). Conclusions : Serum levels of IgG antibodies againstA. actinmycetemcomitans or P.gingivalis in chronic and aggressive periodontitis patients play major role in progression of the periodontal disease. Serum IgGcan’t discriminate between types of periodontitis but might be a suitable marker for discriminating between periodontitis and control.
