Abstract

In the period from February 2019 to August 2019 sixty patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy were randomly allocated to one of two groups and comparative study was done. Fifteen minutes before the end of the surgery the patients received, intraperitoneal 30ml bupivacaine 0.5% (group B) or intraperitoneal 2mg Morphine diluted in 30 ml bupivacaine 0.5% (group BM), into the hepato-diaphragmatic space, near and above the hepato-duodenal ligament and above the gall bladder bed under direct vision.
Postoperatively, pain score using VAS score, time of Rescue analgesic and Post-operative nausea and vomiting were recorded
The results showed that there was decrease in pain intensity in groups BM compared to BO with statistically significant difference, and there was delay in the time of rescue analgesia in group BM compared to group BO with a statistically significant difference but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups regarding post operative nausea and vomiting
We concluded that intra peritoneal instillation of bupivacaine with morphine after laparoscopic cholecystectomy successfully decrease post-operative pain during first 24 hour and delay the time of rescue analgesia with no effect on post-operative nausea and vomiting and is better than injecting bupivacaine alone.
