Abstract

Thesis title : The Effectiveness of a Remedial Program Based on Phonics in Improving Preparatory learners’ Oral Reading .

Source: Ain Shams University, Faculty of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction Supervisors Dr. Zeinab Ali El-Naggar, Professor of Curriculum and Instruction (EFL), Faculty of education, Ain Shams University Dr. Shaima Saeed Nasr Lecturer of curriculum and Instruction (EFL) , Faculty of Education ,Ain Shams University Year: 2019 Abstract The current study aimed at improving the necessary oral reading skills, phonemic awareness skills and word decoding skills, of preparatory learners through a remedial program based on phonics. The study group were 40 learners {boys} from the first grade learners of Khaled Ibn-Elwaleed preparatory school, West Shubra directorate, Shubra El Khiema .The current study made use of the following instruments:a-A checklist of the oral reading skills needed to develop the preparatory stage learners’ oral reading skills. b-A Pre-post -oral reading test to measure oral reading skills. c- Rubrics to measure learners’ oral reading skills. The results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference at (0.01). level between the mean scores of the study group in the overall oral reading skills in the pre and post test in favor administration of the post test. Also results showed that the use of the program based on phonics increased learners’ overall oral reading skill.
