Abstract

The petroleum, petrochemical and chemical industries are totally
dependent on the use of different iron alloys. The internal corrosion of oil
pipelines, and other production, processing, storage and transport
equipments is considered to be one of the most dangerous types of
corrosion which couldn’t be seen by the human eye but we use many
modern techniques to determine their internal corrosion rates. This is
because the presence of organic and inorganic substances associated with
oil production and distribution causing corrosion. The problems of
corrosion are many and dangerous, while the most important of which is
the oil spill as it resulted in loss of oil production and violation of
international standards which may cause fires, explosions, loss of living
beings, loss of production and equipments leading to a significant effect on
the national economy.
The utilizing of corrosion inhibitors is the most efficient approach to
protect against internal metallic corrosion and to minimize the massive
corrosion losses. Organic compounds like surfactants and polymers are
used extensively for this purpose due to their low manufacturing price, ease
of application, and physical characteristics. The most important kind of
polymers used as corrosion inhibitors are Schiff base polymers. For this
purpose, this thesis is concerned with synthesis of some novel Schiff base
polymers and using them as corrosion inhibitors in sour petroleum
