Abstract

A few studies supported the theory that adiponectin has a functional role in acne development. Identifying adiponectin receptors in human sebocytes and modulation of lipid and cytokine production suggest the possible association between adiponectin and acne pathophysiology.
The study included thirty cases of acne patients aged 13-24 with an average age of 19.3 ± 2.6, of which 19 were females and 11 were males and twenty eight healthy volunteers as a control group were enrolled as healthy control, matched in age, gender and BMI.
The study was conducted at the dermatology clinic at the Suez Canal University Hospital in Ismailia; complete history was taken from all participants. A clinical examination of the whole body was performed and a clinical examination of the skin, severity of acne was assessed and finally the level of adiponectin was measured by ELISA.
