Abstract

Synthesis of ampholyte nanocomposite polymers as environmentally
friendly adsorbents is highly demanded in the field of adsorption of
radionuclides. In this work, the following ampholyte nanocomposite
polymers were successfully synthesized using gamma radiation for
initiating the grafting of monomers onto natural polymers in the presence
of Fe2O3 as a magnetic nanoparticle (MNPs) by template polymerization
technique.,

The influence of reaction conditions, such as concentration and
composition of monomers, polymer, crosslinker (NMBA) and MNPs
concentration, on the grafting efficiency and swelling degree were
studied.The structural characteristic of ampholyte nanocomposite
polymers was confirmed by means of FTIR, SEM, and TGA. The
adsorption behaviors of ampholyte nanocomposite polymers toward
60Co and 99mTc radionuclides were examined using the batch
adsorption experiments as a function of adsorbent weight, pH,
adsorption time, temperature and initial metal ions concentration.
Adsorption isotherms, kinetic studies, and thermodynamic studies
were used to fit the experimental data.
