Abstract The aim of Tinnitus Primary Function Questionnaire is to focus on the primary activities impaired by tinnitus so, it is more sensitive to treatments including thoughts, emotions, hearing, sleep and concentration. Translation of The Tinnitus Primary Function Questionnaire into Arabic language will enrich the battery of tinnitus analysis and improve the outcome of its management in Egypt. In the current study, The original English version was translated into literary Arabic after obtaining the permission of the author of the original version by a forward- and back-translation process according to the published guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation of health-related quality-of-life measures. It was applied to 180 patients (100 patients weren’t complaining of tinnitus, 80 patient with history of chronic persistent tinnitus (more than 3 months).Validity and reliability of the questionnaire were then assessed. Reliability includes internal consistency reliability and test retest reliability. Validity was examined using Mann-Whitney test and the Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The Arabic TPFQ-12 showed high internal consistency reliability coefficients with Cronbach’s alpha 0.819 for the study group while control 0.806 and this is consistent with the original English TPFQ- 12 that was 0.89. Test-retest correlation was done after one weak of the first visit for all items of the questionnaire for study and control groups. Repeatability of the questionnaire was high for total Arabic TPFQ-12 using Spearman’s correlation (r = 0.999 and 0.998) for study and control groups respectively. Using Mann-Whitney test there was significant difference between the study and control groups regarding the mean of each item and the total score of the Arabic TPFQ-12 , that was higher |
