Abstract Brucellosis is one of the major zoonotic diseases that affecting the veterinarians, slaughterhouse workers, laboratory technicians and farmers. Aim: the study aimed to design health guidelines for slaughter house workers about brucellosis at Port Said city. Sample: the study was carried out on all slaughterhouse workers (70). Setting: The study was conducted at the slaughter house in Port Said City. Research design: A quasi-experimental research design with pre-post assessment was utilized. Data collection tools: four tools were utilized to collect the data including: a structured interview questionnaire, slaughterhouse workers’ knowledge and behavior questionnaire, observational checklist and blood analysis test of brucellosis. The researcher designed health guidelines with small group sessions using pre- post assessment. Results: 29.2% of the studied workers had positive result for Brucellosis test, 2.9 % of studied workers had pre-intervention satisfactory total knowledge which increased to 70.0% in post intervention, 57.7 % had adequate total personal behaviors in pre intervention compared to 95.7% in post intervention. 32.9% had adequate total practices in pre intervention which reached to 92.9% in post intervention, with highly statistically significant improvement in knowledge, behavior and practices in pre/post intervention phases. Conclusion: The guidelines were successful in achieving its main objectives of improving knowledge, behavior and practices regarding brucellosis. Recommendations: collaboration between public health sectors with veterinary medical management. Replications of similar specific studies using large probability samples at different settings are highly recommended. |
