Abstract

High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HPFRC) is a concrete with high strength over 50 MPa. HPFRC is used in many civil engineering applications. The main objective of this research is to study the structural behavior of RC columns retrofitted with HPFRC subjected to concentric static axial loadings. An experimental test program was prepared to test 12 reinforced concrete columns having sections of 120*120 mm and lengths of 1000, 1500 and 2000 mm. The columns’ specimens were tested as hinged – hinged under concentrated load at both ends up to failure. For each height of columns: one column was tested as control specimen without retrofitting, another one as corroded column and two columns retrofitted by jacketing with two different materials; HPFRC and normal strength concrete (NSC). The behavior of the tested columns was estimated in terms of ultimate load, vertical displacement, horizontal displacement, strain in concrete and strain in main steel rebar. The RC column retrofitted within this study by HPFRC achieved the best structural results.
