Abstract

Acids attack is an open filed for researches. It is important to enhance the resistance of concrete to both sulfuric and nitric acid attack. This research study the use of proper mineral admixture to enhance the durability of concrete with sulfate resisting cement (SRC) and CEM Ш-A cement. The studied variable were concrete grade ( 40 , 70 , 100 MPa ), type of cement , mineral admixture , silica fume(SF) (10% ,and 15 % ) and fly ash(FA) (20% ,and 40% ) , using of fiber ( 0.1% of Polypropylene fiber(PP.F) ,and 0.32% steel fiber(ST.F) by volume. The concrete was attacked by sulfuric and nitric acid of PH = 1 for 120 days. In case of nitric acid attack. The use of SF with CEM Ш–A cement decreases the sulfuric acid durability of HPC compared with SRC cement with silica fume. May the aggressive attack of sulfuric acids tends to the presence of Oxonium aluminum sulfate, O.A.S, with chemical form of (H3O)(Al(SO4)2) , as well as gypsum and ettrengite. It is recommended to use SRC with SF for concrete attacked by sulfuric acid. One can use CEM Ш–A with SF attacked by nitric acids. The use of high performance concrete (HPC) (70 and 100 MPa) considerably enhances the durability of concrete subjected to sulfuric acid attack compared with normal concrete (NC).
