Abstract

Current trend of civil engineering and material science is to minimize the maintenance cost by providing green, sustainable and superior structural performance for concrete structures. Traditional concrete performance does not meet the present or the future requirements of the new building construction in addition to several problems and costly maintenance. Harsh brittle nature of normal concrete triggered researchers to develop fiber reinforced composites to overcome these problems. Currently, in Egypt there are few researches have been done to test reinforced concrete elements combining Engineering Cementitious Composites. Incorporating fine materials such as fly ash and GGBS is essential to improve undesired features of normal concrete. Using such replacement materials will enhance strain capacity and shear strength more than using the conventional concrete alone. So, the main objective of this thesis is to test different cement replacement materials with different ratios to select the optimum ratios. Based on this result, applying Engineered Cementitious Composite mortar with the optimum ratios on reinforced beams and verifying the experimental results using software analysis. Applying the optimum ratios to the ECC reinforced beams under flexure will not only enhance ductility properties but also enhance shear performance as well.
