Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the effect of a proposed brain- based learning strategy to develop some English language speaking skills of the preparatory school students. The research design was a pre-post quasi experimental. Two classes from Al- Manar Language School in Ismailia were chosen purposefully. One was the experimental group and the second group was the control one. Each group consisted of thirty female students. The researcher adopted a strategy manipulating brain- based learning activities relating to speaking topics found in Hello English for Preparatory School textbook. The brain- based Learning activities were adopted in teaching the experimental group, while the regular method was adopted in teaching the control one. This took place in the first term of the academic year 2014-2015. An oral speaking test was designed and validated to be used as a pre and posttest for the two groups of students. The data obtained were treated statistically using Cronbach,s Alpha, t- test and effect size. The results of the study revealed that the students taught by the proposed brain-based learning strategy had better scores in the speaking skills test than those taught by the regular teaching. It can be concluded that the proposed brain-based learning strategy had a significantly positive effect on English language speaking skills of the preparatory school students.
