Abstract

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major depressive disorder occurring after delivery, typically from 2 weeks to 1 year postpartum, and manifest with anhedonia, depressed mood, insomnia or hypersomnia, loss of appetite or hyperphagia, emotional liability, guilt and suicidal ideation, women may also worry excessively about her infant and feel guilty about him. Symptoms must be continuously present for at least 2 weeks interfering with the individual’s daily activities to meet diagnostic criteria for depression.
