Abstract The aim of the present study was to assess the diagnostic value of platelet indices (platelet count, mean platelet volume and Platelet distribution width), CEA and CA19-9 in differentiating malignant gastric ulcer from peptic ulcer. This study was conducted on 30 patients with malignant gastric ulcer, 60 patients with benign gastric ulcer and 60 healthy persons as controls. Patients and controls were selected from persons attending the outpatient clinic and/or inpatient department of Tropical Medicine and Oncology departments, Menoufia university hospital in the period between December 2017 to December 2018. Patients were 55 (61.1%) males and 35 (38.9 %) females. Their ages ranged from 44 to 79 years with a mean age of 61.5 ± 15.52 as well as, 60 healthy persons of matched age and sex as a control group. Informed consents were obtained from all patients and controls included in the study which approved by the local ethics committee. Patients and controls were classified into the following groups: |
