Abstract

Multiphase induction machines are well recognized as an attractive alternative to conventional three phase induction machine in a number of applications where high overall system reliability and reduction in the total power per phase are required. In this thesis, an optimization strategy based on mathematical model equations is introduced to obtain optimized air gap field density and optimized split ratio with maximum induced torque. Effect of varying different machine design parameters such as number of poles, stator slots and rotor bars, stack length, number of phases on optimum design is studied. The same strategy is applied using finite element analysis (FEA). The Software used to apply FEA analysis is Maxwell Ansys. Finally, the dynamic model of six phase asymmetrical induction motor is investigated. By using MATLAB SIMULINK software and experimental test , the six phase induction motor is simulated and compared to its three phase motor counterpart.
