Abstract

Pelvic floor dysfunctions are frequent but complex conditions that can involve some or all pelvic viscera. It can significantly impact quality of life with symptoms of pelvic pain, organ prolapse, fecal and urinary incontinence and difficulty of defecation. As abnormalities of the three pelvic compartments are frequently associated, a complete survey of the entire pelvis is necessary before surgical repair. Conventional barium defecography is still considered the standard of reference for assessment pelvic floor dysfunction, it only gives information about the posterior compartment disorders however dysfunction of the anterior and middle compartments cannot be diagnosed. MRI becomes an important non invasive diagnostic imaging modality in evaluation of patients with pelvic floor dysfunction due to its high contrast resolution providing excellent anatomic images without ionizing radiation or iodinated contrast injection. Beside its excellent morphological details, MRI also provides dynamic technique for evaluation of pelvic floor dysfunction. The aim of this study was to detect the role of static and dynamic MRI in patients with pelvic floor dysfunction .
