Abstract Paul Auster is one of the most important contemporary American writers. He was born to a Jewish family of Polish origin in 1947 in Newark New Jersey. He is considered as a postmodern novelist. His work is concerned with current political events put in an exciting context. In most of his writings, readers come across political discussions among characters. This thesis reflects the views and ideas of some literary critics who classify Auster as a distinguished political writer.The thesis shows the political aspects of Auster’s literary writings, with special reference to two works, Leviathan and Man in the Dark. It consists of an introduction, followed by three chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter, under the title, ’Political Fiction and Auster as One of Its Figures’, is dedicated to the discussion of political literature in general. Moreover, it celebrates some of its outstanding pioneers, highlighting Paul Auster as a political writer of considerable contributions to the genre. |
