Abstract
Alexandria is highly exposed to the potential impacts of hydro-climatic change, especially erosion and marine submersion. It has been defined as a vulnerable zone as a consequence of sea-level rise combined with geological and human factors. Despite the uncertainties regarding the actual value of hazard, undoubtedly it will have immediate adverse impacts on the coastal line. Last decade, the city had to cope with numerous episodes of extreme events, such as storm surges and heavy rainfall that caused flooding. Consequently, the Thesis provides a set of strategies for adaptation in Alexandria’s coasts to hydro-meteorological hazards using urban design strategies and techniques, and the design guidelines of resilient waterfront parks as a defense tool that can be used by urban designers and policy-makers for recommended actions and process.
