Abstract This work was carried out on 116 rabbit embryos and foetuses of both sexes and different ages ranged from 9 to 30 days old of prenatal life. They were obtained from 14 normal and apparently healthy maternal balady rabbit. The mothers were obtained from the rabbit farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University. After fixation, embryos and foetuses classified into three groups each of which representing the ages of the pregnancy to perform the following techniques: (A) light microscopic technique, (B) stereomicroscpic technique, (C) scanning electron microscopic technique. The nomenclature used along the course of this study was those adopted by Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria (2017), Nomina Embryologica Veterinaria (2017) and Nomina Histologica Veterinaria (2017). The most important results were; rabbit embryo of 9 days old showed appearance of the frontonasal prominence with lens placode and otic placode. The stomodaeum was bounded dorsally by the frontonasal prominence, maxillary process laterally and mandibular arches ventrally. Also, the nasal placodes appeared as oval shaped areas situated on each side the frontonasal prominence in the rabbit embryo of 10 days old. The rabbit embryo of 11 days old showed that the nasal placode invaginated to form the nasal pit (olfactory pits). The rabbit embryo of 12 days old revealed that the nasal pits becomes narrow from side to side (to form) and run caudally, slightly. |
