Abstract

This study was conducted to compare between conventional heat-cured
Poly-methyl methacrylate denture and metal re-enforced polyamide
denture regarding oral health related quality of life using oral health
impact profile for edentulous questionnaire, readings were taken at one
and six months.
Fourteen patients fulfilling the eligibility criteria were recruited from the
out-patient clinic in the prosthodontic department, faculty of dentistry,
Cairo university. The patients were distributed randomly into two groups
(seven per group) after jaw registration phase where; the control group
received Heat-cured polymethyl methacrylate maxillary and mandibular
dentures, while the intervention group received heat cured polymethyl
methacrylate maxillary denture and metal reinforced polyamide
mandibular denture.
Results showed that all patients are satisfied in the control group at one
and six months with mean scores (17.71 and 17) respectively and in the
intervention group with mean scores (23 and 13.28) respectively. There
was no effect of time on the control group, where no statistically
significant difference within the control group between one and six
months at a P> 0.05. While there was effect of time in the intervention
group, where there was a statistically significant difference between one
and six months, favoring six months at a P<0.05. Between the two groups
there was a statistically significant difference at one month favoring
control group at a P<0.05, while there was no statistically significant
difference at six months at a P>0.05.
