Abstract aim of this study was to analyze the efficacy of sternal closure using stainless-steel wires by figure of eight technique versus multi-twist technique to prevent post sternotomy wound complications. This study encompassed 60 CAD patients who underwent CABG. Patients were divided into two equal groups; group A with its patients‟ sterna were closed by figure of eight technique, and group B with sternal closure was performed by multi-twist (Prakash) technique. Our study results showed; that there was no patients whose sterna were closed by multi-twist technique experienced sternal instability and\or dehiscence compared to two patients with figure of eight sternal closure suffered sternal dehiscence within 6 months after surgery but this was statistically insignificant. Also, our study revealed that both groups showed no difference in the incidence of both SSWI and DSWI throughout 6 months after CABG. In addition, the severity of post-sternotomy pain was the same among patients of both groups. In both groups, 2 patients of group A needed wire removal and one of them required rewiring within 6 months after surgery. |
