Abstract

The burden of lung cancer on public health is enormous, lung cancer is by far the most common cancer in males and the fifth most frequent cancer in females . The worldwide impact of lung cancer will furthermore increase.
The aim of the work is to compare biopsies obtained using a hot biopsy forceps and those obtained via a cryoprobe through a flexible bronchoscope as regards yield and complications.
This study was carried out on twenty patients referred to Chest Department, Menoufia University hospital during the period from October 2015 to May 2018, with mean age of 63.75 ± 17.99 years and percentage of male to female patients was 85 % and 15% respectively .
The included patients were subjected to:
1. History taking.
2. Clinical evaluation.
3. Routine laboratory investigations and coagulation profile.
4. Radiological investigations:
 Chest X-ray postero-anterior and lateral views.
 Computed tomography (CT) of the chest.
5. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Once an endobronchial lesion was identified, three conventional biopsies, three cryo-biopsies followed by three electrocautery-biopsies were taken from different areas. The samples were placed in formalin containers.
