Abstract

Catalytic reforming of heavy naphtha is a process used in the production of gasoline with high octane number. The aim of catalytic reforming is to transform, as much as possible hydrocarbons with low octane to hydrocarbons with high octane. The chemical reactions that lead to these changes are guided by a catalyst under a certain operating conditions The effects of process variables (temperature, pressure and space velocity) on the octane number and reformate yield were studied by using actual data for catalytic reforming unit in Suez oil processing company. Also three empirical equations were concluded in this study by using regression analysis program, the first is a relation between Octane Number and process variables (temperature, pressure and space velocity), the second is a relation between reformate yield and process variables and the third equation is a relation between Octane Number and chemical composition of feed(Naphthenic and Aromatics Percentage) for catalytic reforming unit and process variables. The results of regression analysis showed that these equations represent the actual process variables with minimum error. The optimum operating conditions were determined by analyzing the field data by using fuzzy logic equation to determine the decision factor to obtain maximum octane number with maximum reformate yield and Also correlations between RONC and reformate yield, RONC and E.B.P, reformate yield and E.B.P were studied and correlations factors for these relations are R1=0.9853, R2=0.8698 and R3=0.8368 respectively Key words: Catalytic naphtha reforming, Naphtha, Octane Number ,gasoline.).
