Abstract The aim of the present work was to study the effect of exercise on some cardiovascular parameters in aging measuring fasting serum inflammatory markers, some cardiac enzymes, some oxidative stress markers, fasting serum lipid profile, systolic blood pressure, heart rate and doppler ultrasound on abdominal aorta and to test the hypothesis that regular exercise training may improve the age- related patho-physiologic CVS alteration in aged rats. Thirty male albino rats were used in this study. The rats were divided into the following groups: i. Young control group (age 3 - 4 month, weight 150- 200g). ii. Aged sedentary group (age 22 - 24 month, weight 300 - 400g). iii. Aged exercised group (age 22 - 24 month, weight 300 - 400g). In each of the previously mentioned groups systolic blood pressure, heart rate, lipid profile, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α, MDA, NO , some cardiac enzymes (CK-MB, cTnI, LDH and GP-BB) and doppler ultrasound on abdominal aorta were measured. The results showed that aging caused significant increase in SBP, HR, Il-6 and TNF-α, NO and MDA, total cholesterol and LDL-C, aortic vascular resistance and elevated cardiac enzymes (CK-MB, cTn I, LDH and GP-BB. In the aged exercised group, regular treadmill exercise caused significant reduction in systolic blood pressure, heart rate, Il-6 and TNF-α, NO and MDA, total cholesterol and LDL-C, aortic vascular resistance and (CK-MB, cTn I, LDH and GP-BB( and significant decrease of Il-10, HDL-C and aortic blood flow and insignificant changes in TGs and VLDL-C levels. It was clear that aging caused significant cardiovascular hemodynamic changes which was explained on the basis of age induced elevated in cardiac myocytes injury biomarkers and associated with alteration in the vascular function due to hypercholesterolemia, elevation of oxidative stress marker as (MDA), elevation of pro- inflammatory cytokines as (Il-6 and TNF-α) with subsequent increase in vascular resistanc, diminished blood flow, increase arterial blood pressure and tachycardia. Regular exercise training for 6 weeks was proved to have the ability of decreasing elevated cardiac enzymes and decrease progression of cardiovascular aging by elevation of anti- inflammatory cytokines as (Il-10), decreased oxidative stress marker (MDA), improvement in dyslipidemic state as decreasing LDL-C and elevation of serum HDL-C, decrease arterial blood pressure and decreased elevated heart rate in the aged rats. In turn, this was reflected on improvement of the vascular hemodynamic parameters that presented by increased blood flow velocity and decrease systemic vascular resistance. When we do the validity test of the cardiac enzymes by plotting the (ROC )curve ,we found that ; Cardiac troponin I showed the best cardiac enzyme to early detect the presence of cardiac insult rather than the CK-MB, LDH and GP-BB among the experimentally studied groups. |
