Abstract

The present work was conducted to study the effect of Kiwi, Avocado and its extracts on the nutritional values, weights, oranges weight, serum glucose, total proteins, lipid profile, liver functions and kidney functions of obese rats. Fifty male albino rats (Sprague Dawley strain) were divided into two main groups. The first main group (5rats), was fed on basal diet and considered as negative control group. The second main group (45 rats) was fed on high fat diet (HFD) for 4 weeks to induce obesity. Obese rats were randomly assigned to nine equal sub groups: the first sub group fed on high fat diet (HFD) as positive control group, sub group (2) fed on basal diet containing 5% Avocado powder, subgroup (3)fed on basal diet containing 10% Avocado powder, subgroup(4) fed on basal diet + 1ml of Avocado extract (100mg/kg orally/day), sub group (5)fed on basal diet +2ml of Avocado extract (200mg/ kg orally day), sub group (6) fed on basal diet containing 5% Kiwi powder, sub group (7) fed on basal diet containing 10% Kiwi powder, sub group (8) fed on basal diet + 1ml of Kiwi extract (100mg/kg orally/day), sub group (9) fed on basal diet +2ml of Kiwi extract (200mg/kg orally/day). Conclusion treating obese rats with fed on diet containing Avocado and Kiwi and their extracts improved the mean value of feed intake and decrease body weight gain % and organs weight as compared to the obese group control positive group. All lipid profile (cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-c and VLDL-c), kidney functions and liver enzymes, glucose and total protein decreased in all tested groups while, increased in high density lipoproteins HDL-c compared to the obese group control positive group was observed.
