Abstract

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) remains a common and potentially severe musculoskeletal disorder. Although its etiology is largely unknown, ongoing research endeavors continue to improve our understanding of its potential origin and its natural history. Advances in understanding its true three-dimensional nature have sought to improve classification and management strategies.
The aim of the work was to evaluate curve patterns of idiopathic scoliosis among the Egyptian population according to Lenke classification
The study included fifty patients have AIS presented to spine surgery unit, El Hadra university hospital, they were assessed clinically and radiologically and classified according to Lenke classification system.
Twelve cases were males (24%), 38 were females (76%) with a ratio 1:3, The age of the cases was from 10 to 24 years with mean age 14.9 years.
According to lenke classification 24 cases (48%) where type I and 22 cases (44%) were type V, 3cases (6%) were type II and only one case(2%) was type III
The highest Cobb angle was 98 degree and the least was 14 degree.
Two cases has hypokyphosis (4%), 14 cases have hyperkyphosis (28%) and the rest of the cases were within the normal range from 10-40 degrees (68%).
