Abstract

The experiment was conducted during 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 growing seasons at the Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Fayoum University, Fayoum. The experiments aimed to study the influence of ammonium nitrate, potassium humate under two types of soil on vegetative growth, flowering and chemical composition of Calendula officinalis, L. plant. The laid–out in a split–split plot arranged in randomized complete block design with three replicates. Soil media was considered main plot in form of two types (clay & sand loamy soils), while nitrogen fertilizer was in sub-plot in form of ammonium nitrate (33.5% N) at rate of (0, 3 and 6 g/plant) and humic acid was in sub-sub-plot in form of potassium humate (85%) at rate of (0, 1 and 2 g/plant). The sub-sub-plot containing five pots.
The obtained results show that plant height, number of branches and diameter of inflorescences per plant, fresh and dry weights of plant and number of inflorescences were increased by application different rates of mineral and organic fertilizers or their combinations under two sowing media as compared with the control.
All treatments alone or in combinations caused an increase in flowering parameters i.e. early flowering, number of inflorescences per plant, fresh and dry weight of inflorescences per plant and diameter of inflorescences as compared with the control.
Also, the interaction between (6gm/plant) ammonium nitrate and (2gm/plant) potassium humate increased chlorophyll (a, b), chlorophyll (a + b) total carotenoids, total carbohydrates, N, P, and K% contents, compared with the control.
Calendula plants treated with the interaction between ammonium nitrate and potassium humate showed significant differences in plant height and number of inflorescences per plant and increased the pigments such as (Beta carotene and Xanthophyll ) in dry ray flowers as compared to untreated plants.
