Abstract

The allelopathic effect of sunflower, rice, pigweed and cocklebur at three different aqueous concentration ( . , and w/v) were investigated under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. Additionally, the effect of four rates ( , , , cm/fed ) of glyphosate herbicide and the combination between the previous allelopathic plant wastes and glyphosate in its four rates on dodder and it’s host germination and growth, pigmentation, primary metabolites and anatomical changes were investigated under greenhouse conditions. Growth criteria improved by increasing wastes extract concentration also inhibitory effect on weight and length of dodder stem were recorded. Pigment content increased by increasing wastes concentration more over plant wastes caused decrease in glucose content of clover plant while sucrose and starch had increased. Also protein content was increased gradually by increasing plant extract concentration. On the other hand free proline content was decreased gradually by increasing plant extract concentrations. Application of glyphosate led to reduction in the previous growth criteria and the previous primary metabolites especially at the highest rate cm/fed.The combination treatments led to improving growth criteria of clover by increasing plant extract concentration and decreasing rate of glyphosate it also had a highly significant reduction on dodder weight. Additionally pigments content, glucose, sucrose and starch and protein content were enhanced. On the other hand, proline content was decreased by the same treatments. The combination treatments were more effective in improving clover stem diameter, number of vascular bundles and thickness of xylem and phloem as compared to glyphosate alone. Moreover it were effective in reducing dodder stem diameter and number of haustorium than glyphosate only.
