Abstract The present work was performed to investigate the effect of taurine on depression associated with obesity and streptozotocin induced diabetes in rats. Sixty male albino rats of local strain were used in this study; the rats were divided into six equal groups (ten rats each): group 1 (Control group): received saline intraperitoneally as a vehicle once a day for 30 days. group 2 (Taurine group): received taurine (100 mg/kg) intraperitoneally once a day for 30 days. group 3 (STZ-diabetic group): Diabetes was induced by a single dose of streptozotocin (50mg/kg) by intraperitoneal injection. group 4 (Obese group): Obesity was induced by feeding rats with high fatty (HF) diet for 8 weeks group 5 (Taurine treated diabetic group): After induction of diabetes, rats received taurine (100 mg/kg) intraperitoneally once a day for 30 days. group 6 (Taurine treated obese group): After induction of obesity, rats received taurine (100 mg/kg) intraperitoneally once a day for 30 days. At the end of the experiment, Body mass index (BMI) was determined and behavioral tests including Open field test (OFT) and Forced swim test (FST) were done in all groups. Then, all rats Summary & conclusion 163 were sacrificed to collect blood samples for estimation of the following parameters: -Fasting glucose level -Serum insulin level -HOMA IR -Serum triglycerides level -Serum LDL cholesterol lev. |
