Abstract

Flat slabs column connections are subjected to punching shear force. These connections can be strengthened using shear studs which considered a very efficient method to increase the ultimate punching shear strength. Experimentally tests using six specimens of flat slabs with the same dimensions )1100 mm ×1100 mm ×120 mm) and the same flexural reinforcement with different shear reinforcement configurations were tested in this research. The main objective of this study was to investigate the behavior of the flat slab column connections strengthened with shear studs. The main parameters of the current study were the strengthening configuration of the shear studs and the addition time of them. Strengthening configurations of the shear studs were four shear studs distributed at the middle point of column sides, four shear studs distributed diagonally from the column corners and eight shear studs distributed around punching area. Addition time of shear studs was before cast and after hardening of concrete. from the experimental study, it was found that the area of shear studs was a main factor that affected punching shear strength. But, distribution method of shear studs (at the middle point of the column sides or diagonally from the column corners) and addition time of shear studs (before concrete cast or after hardening of concrete) had insignificant effect on the punching shear strength. Theoretical values of the punching shear strength of flat slab, either with or without shear studs according to several codes also mentioned in this research to compare between experimental and theoretical results. The theoretical results of ACI 318-14, EC2 and NAD 2011 were not logic for the case of one perimeter of shear studs.
