Abstract

The present work was performed to study the effect of the Clostri-mix as a biological control for S. Gallinarum, ciprofloxacin as an antibacterial drug and the adverse effect of S. Gallinarum infection on the body performance, hematological parameters, blood chemistry, immunity and associated lesions in broiler chicks.
The experiment was carried out on one handred and seventy five (one-day old) broiler chicks (Cobb breed) which were divided equally into 7 groups each of 25 birds. Gp. (1), was kept as normal control. Gp. (2), was administrated Clostri-mix. Gp. (3), was administrated Ciprociel. Gp. (4), was infected with S. Gallinarum. Gp. (5), was infected with S. Gallinarum and treated with Clostri-Mix. Gp. (6), Administrated Clostri-Mix and infected with S. Gallinarum. Gp. (7), was infected with S. Gallinarum and treated with Ciprociel.
The ration was weighted daily to determine the feed consumption/week. The weekly feed consumption was subdivided on the weekly increase in body weight to calculate the feed conversion ratio. Five chicks in each group at the end of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks were sacrificed after collection of blood samples from wing vien. The 1st collected on dipotassium salt of EDTA for hematological examination, the 2nd collected without anticoagulant for biochemical analysis and the 3rd collected in heparinized tubes for immunological studies. Specimens were collected from Liver, spleen, intestine and kidney from all experimental groups at time of sacrifice.
Chicks of gps. (1-3) appeared healthy with no abnormalities along the experiment. While, chicks infected with S. Gallinarum (gp.4) and those infected with S. Gallinarum and treated with clostri-mix (gp.5) showed dullness, huddling together near the source of heat, loss of apetite, ruffled feathers and some birds had white yellowish diarrhea and pasty vent. On the other side, gps. (6&7) showed an improvement.
