Abstract

Respiratory diseases are one amongs the most serious group of diseases affecting chicken flocks. ORT is the one of the respiratory pathogens which indicated as possible cause of respiratory disease.
The results of this study were:
1. Isolation of ORT from suspected naturally infected broiler and layers flocks with a percent 14.55% and 20% respectively.
2. Trachietis, sinusitis, pneumonia, uni or bilateral consolidation of lung air saculitis with foamy yoghurt-like exudates were the postmortem lesions associated with this infection.
3. ORT can grow well on 5-10 % sheep blood agar at 37˚c under 7.5-10% CO2 tension as a selective media and 24 hours’ incubation, the colonies of ORT will appear as pin-point, circular opaque, gray to grayish white, non-pigmented, non-hemolytic, convex with smooth surface and entire edges. The colonies have characteristic butyric odor.
4. Biochemical reaction revealed the identity of ORT isolates oxidase positive and catalase negative.
5. All isolates are unable to grow on MacConkey’s agar media.
