Abstract

Summary
This study was carried out over a period of 16 months, from
July 2015 to November 2016 aiming to detect the presence of M. hominis and U. urealyticum in cases of UTI in pregnant women admitted during the period of the research to Obstetric and Gynecology Department of Tanta University hospitals, determine their antibiotic susceptibility patterns of M. hominis and U.
urealyticum and provide a suitable empiric treatment for these cases
and confirm the commercial culture method by multiplex PCR assay.
The present study included 50 pregnant women with
symptomatic UTI and 50 apparent healthy pregnant women. urine samples will be collected and subjected to microscopic examination
for puyria, culture on blood and CLED agar, MSP and PCR.
Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma detected by MSP among subjects with positive pyuria and negative bacterial growth in patient
groups were 8 (44.4%) for U. Urealyticum, 5 (27.8%) for M.
hominis , 3(16.7%) for both M. hominis and U. Urealyticum together
and 2(11.1%) were negative cases. In controls group, the 2 studied
cases showed negative results.
Multiplex PCR results of MSP positive cases were 3
(18.75%) for M. hominis, 7 (43.75%) for U. Urealyticum, 2 (12.5%) for M. hominis and U. Urealyticum.
As regards the antibiotic susceptibility for M. hominis, all cases were sensitive to tetracycline (4 and 8μg/ml) and doxycycline.
