Abstract

This thesis proposes a new computational framework for predicting
the targets of microRiboNucleic Acid (miRNA). These microRNAs
(miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules (with almost 22 nucleotides
length) that play a significant role in post-transcriptional
gene regulation process. They usually bind with messenger RNAs
(mRNAs) in specific locations which affects the regulation of gene expression
causing dangerous diseases such as heart diseases and cancer
in some cases. Due to these negative effects, it becomes substantial
to identify the targets of miRNAs which demonstrates our aim
of building an enhanced framework for predicting miRNA targets.
The proposed framework intends to overcome the limitations of previous
methodologies mentioned in the literature. These methodologies
have been implemented either experimentally or using computational
tools. The experimental techniques are very expensive and
slow while most of the computational tools suffer from shortages in
predicting miRNA targets with a suitable sensitivity-specificity tradeoff.
