Abstract This research describes a numerical study of an edge column - flat slab connection, which is a critical point in the behaviour of flat slabs. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of shape of the column, development length of steel, compressive strength of concrete, diameter and number of bars of the steel reinforcement of slab on the punching stress the connection by using FEM software (ABAQUS 2013). It is found that, circular column is more efficient than rectangular column, and addition of vertical development length in compression zone improve punching shear capacity and prevent splitting of steel. |
