Abstract

Management of the pests that affecting on the grain and stored product to reduce their spread and to find all safe means and alternatives, as far as possible, to avoid using of chemical pesticides for serious risks is a fundamental objective. Several safe and effective alternatives extracts derived from a number of plant seeds, such as black pepper, dill, and toothpick, by specific solvents to be used as safe plant natural pesticides against these notorious pests. The effectiveness of these extracts was assessed against these serious pests and their stages. Mortality rates were high and increased with increasing of concentration and exposure time. The effect and efficacy of these extracts was also extended to the first generation and there was a significant decreasing in F1 progeny of the insects. The histological studies on midgut of 3rd larval age of red flour beetles revealed that extracts affected on midgut region and showed deformation ranged from mild to lethal to highly lethal, depending on concentration and time. The results of the GC / MS spectroscopy of these extracts indicated the presence of effective functional groups of chemical compounds known to have a toxic effect against those insect pests.
