Abstract

SUMMARY
Lupus nephritis (LN) is a prominent feature in SLE, present in 15-30% of patients with lupus at the time of the initial diagnosis and 30-50% during the disease progression. Present assessment of SLE patients includes a urine analysis, creatinine clearance and measurement of urinary proteins. However, these parameters are not predictive of the classification and severity of nephropathy seen at biopsy nor they have been shown to be reliable in evaluating treatment response.
This study represents one of the studies that aimed to assess the significance of anti ribosomal p antibodies in lupus nephritis patients for the detection of renal involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus and it may give necessary information for an assured prediction of disease course and outcome. This indication enables clinicians to create individual lupus treatment strategies.
Moreover the relation with the SLEDAI score and other lupus manifestations. Also, the relation with the SLICC score .
The present study included fifty patients with SLE attending to Rheumatology and Rehabilitation department in Beni Suef hospital University, and diagnosed according to American College of Rheumatology revised criteria for SLE. Renal involvement of these patients was assessed by renal parameter of the SLEDAI score.
All were subjected to full clinical history and examination, 24 hours urinary protein, serum creatinine, blood urea, C3, C4, Anti DsNA, as well as serum anti ribosomal p antibody protein by ELISA technique.
In this study, Results showed the following findings:
(Anti p +ve/Anti DsNA –ve) group has younger age at onset of lupus, lower level of creatinine, more prevelence of class v by histopthology, lower % of hypertention, higher % of Psychiatric manifestations than (Anti p-ve/Anti DsNA +ve ) & (Anti p -ve) groups. In addition, there was no statistically significant difference regarding SLEDAI score, SLICC score and other clinical manifestations of systemic lupus.
