Abstract
The current study was planned to compare and evaluate the results of treatment of unstable extension type supracondylar humeral fractures in children by closed reduction and percutaneous pinning under image intensifier using two different methods, according to which the patients were divided into two groups; 15 patients in the first group were treated by lateral entry pins without medial interference, and 15 patients in the second group were treated by crossed lateral and medial pins.
The data of the patients were collected in a preplaned case sheets included history taking, clinical and radiological examination.
The age of the patients ranged from one to ten years with a mean of 5.32 years, 23 patients were under the age of six years (76.66%) and 7 patients ranged from six to ten years (23.33%).
In group (A) the age ranged from one year to ten years, 11 patients were under the age of six years (73.33%) and 4 patients ranged from six to ten years (26.66%).
In group (B) the age ranged from one year to 10 years, 12 patients were under the age of six years (80%) and 3 patients ranged from six to ten years (20%).
In group (A) there were 5 males (33.33%) and 10 females (67.67%). While in group (B) there were 8 males (53.33%) and 7 females (46.67%). with a total of 13 males (43.33%) and 17 females (56.67%).
The dominant side was affected in 14 cases (46.67%) while the non-dominant side was affected in 16 cases (53.33%).
