Abstract Sleep disturbances can affect sleep quality and quantity, leading to increased morbidity. Sleep disturbance involves obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, enuresis, and narcolepsy, and complaints of sleep disturbance, including daytime sleepiness, change in sleep location, difficulty falling asleep, waking during the night, early morning waking, and restless sleep. These sleep problems are often signs of an underlying sleep disorder. Sleep disturbance in children is commonly treated through medical or behavioral interventions (Helwig, 2011). Sleep problems appear to be rather common in young children, and various studies have reported susceptibility in 14-26% of preschool-age children. Sleep disorders have also been linked to problems in child populations such as somatic illnesses, poor school achievement, cognitive performance and emotional and behavioral problems. Among young children in particular, sleep problems are associated with poorer parental health. Sleep problems are related to several emotional and psychophysiological difficulties, and are also rather persistent and may predict adverse outcomes in the future. Childhood sleep problems are also linked to later behavioral difficulties and substance abuse (simola, 2014). The aim of the present study was to evaluate mothers’ care regarding their preschool children with sleep disturbances through research questions: -To what extent the mothers having knowledge and practices regarding sleep disturbance? - To what extent the child health affected by sleeping disturbance? -Is there a relation between mothers’ socio demographic characteristics and her knowledge about sleeping disturbance of their children? - Is there a relation between mothers’ socio demographic characteristics and her practices about sleeping disturbance of their children? -Is there a relation between mothers’ knowledge and their practices regarding sleeping disturbance of their children?. |
