Abstract

The present study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of marbofloxacin (2mg/kgbwt) flunixin meglumine (1.1mg/kgbwt) and their combination for 3 successive days on healthy and pneumonic lambs caused by pasteurella multocida beside study the effects of pasteurella multocida and used both drugs on some haemato-biochemical parameters, some oxidative effect Further approach was detection marbofloxacin residues and their histopathological effects. Bacteriological examination of collected 100 nasopharyngeal swabs revealed that the predominant isolates from pneumonic lambs were pasteurella multocida, Streptococcal spp., E coli and mixed infection but healthy lambs not isolate any bacteria.
Our result revealed that in vitro sensitivity test revealed that pasteurella multocida from pneumonic lambs was sensitive to marbofloxacin.
This research was held on forty lambs (20 healthy and 20 naturally infected with pasteurella multocida and showed clinical signs of pneumonia) were divided into 8 equal groups (5 lambs in each).
Two blood samples were taken from all lambs in all groups at 1st, 7th and 14th days post last injection. 1st sample was collected in test tube contain EDTA for hematological study.
2nd sample was collected in centrifuge tube for obtain clear serum for biochemical study. I- Clinical symptoms: Normal lambs (non-infected, non-treated) and also non infected lambs and received tested dose of marbofloxacin or flunixin megl- umine either alone or in combination were healthy, viable showing no clinical symptoms along the course of the experiment. 2- Haematological parameters: Healthy lambs received marbofloxacin or flunixin meglumine in tested dose either alone or together for 3 consecutive days displayed significant decrease in erythrocytic count, hemoglobin content and packed cell volume % beside significant leukocytosis. Showed significant decrease in erythrocytic counts, haemoglobin content and packed cell volume% and significant leukocytosis throughout the experimental period. 3- Serum biochemical parameters: A) Liver enzymes: The obtained result in this study revealed, healthy lambs received marbofloxacin or flunixin meglumine in tested dose either alone or together for 3 consecutive days produced a significant increase in serum AST, ALT, GGT, LDH and ALP at 1st and 7th day post treatment associated with insignificant increase. Our results have been demonstrated that pneumonic lambs showed significant increases in serum liver enzymes (AST, ALT, GGT and ALP) all over the experimental period when compared with control lambs. B) Protein picture: Healthy lamb received marbofloxacin or flunixin meglumine in tested dose either alone or together for 3 consecutive days displayed significant reduction in serum total protein, albumin, globulin and γ globulin beside significant elevation in α and β globulin at 1st & 7th day post injection and non-significant effect in A/G ratio. C) Kidney function tests: Healthy lambs received marbofloxacin or flunixin meglumine in tested dose either alone or together for 3 consecutive days revealed an increase in the level of urea and creatinine post injection and non-significant increase. A significant increase in urea and creatinine thought out the experimental period when compared with control lambs. D) Effect on Antioxidant: Tested dose either alone or together induced significant (p<0.05) decrease in concentration of antioxidant enzymes post injection and insignificant decrease.
4) Marbofloxacin residues: Marbofloxacin residues level were detected post treatment in kidneys, liver and muscle these residues not detected at 5th day post treatment.
5) Pathological examination: Non infected non-treated lambs (control) showed normal appearance of hepatorenal tissue.
