Abstract Methotrexate is used as an anticancerous drug which is also used in autoimmune disease. However, its side effects limit its use. Taurine is sulfur-containing amino acid can be synthesized endogenously and also present in aquatic food. Taurine has an antioxidant effect through its ability to scavenge ROS it also has an anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effect. The present study was performed to study the effect of taurine on hepatorenal toxicity induced by MTX in rats. The present work was carried on (40) albino male rats; the animals were categorized into four groups (10 rats each): group I: Control group: The animals of this group were injected daily with 1ml saline i.p for 6 days. group II: Methotrexate treated group: The animals of this group were injected daily with 1ml saline i.p for 5 days. At the 6th day, they were injected with a single dose of methotrexate (20 mg/kg) i.p. group III: Taurine treated group: The animals of this group were injected with taurine 100 mg/kg daily i.p for 6 days. |
