Abstract

• Introduction: Placenta previa is clinically important causes of bleeding in the second half of pregnancy and labor. It is one of the gravest obstetric emergencies, which associated with significant maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity. Worldwide the incidence of Placenta previais 3–5 per 1000 pregnancies and is increasing nowadays because of increasing rate of cesarean deliveries, as there are positive correlation between the number of caesarean sections and the incidence of abnormal placentation. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess cesarean delivery and its associated factors with risk of placenta previa. Materials and method: The study was conducted at high-risk unit of Mansoura University Hospital during the period from October 2016 to March 2017. The study subject included purposive sample of 139 pregnant women selected according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through Structured Interviewing Schedule to assess the demographic data of pregnant women, obstetrical data and ultrasonography report for the participants. Results: There was highly statistically significant relation between the numbers of previous CS and the types of placenta previa (p=<0.001).Also there was statistically significant relation between the number of previous CS, localization & abnormal adhesion (p=0.027 and p=0.028 respectively). Recommendations: Prepare booklet to increase women’s awareness regarding the risks of elective cesarean delivery, the health benefits of birth spacing between every birth and adverse effect of postponing motherhood which increase the risk of placenta previa.
