Abstract Despite the substantial resources committed to reducing adolescent tobacco use over recent decades, approximately 10 percent of middle school students and nearly a quarter of high school students currently use tobacco. Consequently, adolescent tobacco users are a group at risk for the negative health outcomes associated with tobacco use, including becoming regular users as adults. Our findings suggest that primary care relevant interventions designed to reduce cigarette smoking among adolescents can have a great, positive effects on cessation of smoking among adolescents who have not yet become regular smokers. |
